Another month, another GYGO labor roundup. On a scale of “okay” to “god awful” for labor news, I’d rank this around a “general sense of malaise, but it could be worse!” This month, SAG-AFTRA strikes League of Legends as part of the ongoing video game actors’ strike in response to contractor Formosa Interactive trying to get around the striking union. Plus, a few smaller stories about Microsoft, again, and blatant generative AI use in games.
At the time this is being written, we face the one-year anniversary of Israel’s brutal attacks on Gaza and Palestinians that have now extended into Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and Iran, among other countries. Israel has killed over 40,000 Palestinian people, with even more wounded, starving, tortured, and millions displaced from their destroyed homes. Operation Olive Branch has a master list of mutual aid resources right now. Donate, protest, talk about Palestine, just don’t be silent. (more…)

Welcome to Wednesday! I’ve been dabbling at being a consulting detective in Sherlock Holmes: Crimes and Punishments. It’s a lot of fun, but phew, y’all weren’t joking about how bad that arm wrestling minigame is. It does a great job overall of making me feel briefly smarter than Sherlock Holmes (bro, how did not not immediately conclude that the train wasn’t a real train at all? Trains are super loud!) before revealing that while I may have been right about one thing, I was super, super wrong about the rest—a great feeling for a mystery game.

Hello and happy Wednesday! I’ve been recovering from PAX West for what feels like ages, especially since I haven’t had time to write up my experience there yet. When not attending PAX West, I’ve been dabbling in Get in the Car, Loser!, the JRPG-inspired joy that is Love Conquers All Games’ latest game. Except when I’m playing a game for a review I should also be writing. Except when I’m playing Regency Solitaire. Yes, I still play Regency Solitaire. Find me a better Solitaire. You can’t!
