GYGO Mobile Games: A Fortnight’s Worth of Fortnite News

GYGO Mobile Games: A Fortnight’s Worth of Fortnite News

It’s time for another Wednesday and another roundup of all the mobile gaming news! I was sick for two weeks, then went on vacation, and am now sick again, so my game time has been surprisingly limited. I did recently fire up Tropico 4 for reasons unknown last night, and would you believe it? Still fun! What a fantasy it is to have/be a benevolent leader who provides free healthcare, education, housing, and food for her people. (more…)

GYGO Mobile: More Lawsuits

It’s Wednesday again! I have not been playing mobile games because I got horribly sick, watched a bunch of videos on even further divorcing myself from my phone, and installed a bunch of time-tracking and app-blocking apps on my phone. (Installing apps to block apps is kind of hilarious, now that I write it out.) These apps tend to drain my battery for some reason, so by the end of the day, when I might be tempted to play a mobile game, my phone is simply too close to death to allow it. Is this progress? I do not know. (more…)

Bury Me, My Love: Compassion, Struggle and Western Paternalism in the Refugee Crisis

Bury Me, My Love

Playdius
iOS, Android
2018

Sidequest was provided with a copy of Bury Me, My Love for Android in exchange for a fair and honest review.

“Bury me, my love” is an Arabic phrase, used as a farewell to loved ones. It expresses a familiar sentiment: don’t die before me, I couldn’t live without you. Bury Me, My Love is also the title of a mobile game exploring the experience of one refugee’s perilous journey out of Syria. In it, you play Majd, messaging your wife, Nour, as she attempts to make her way to Germany, seeking refuge from the bombs and bullets of her homeland. Bury Me, My Love is a compelling game that explores important and emotional themes but not without replicating western patriarchal and paternalistic beliefs.

Monument Valley 2 is a Delightful, But Too Safe Sequel

To open Monument Valley 2 is to enter a pastel world of strange, wonderful landscapes, where everything is M. C. Escher and physics aren’t real. There’s nothing quite like the satisfying mental click when you finally crack its nonsense puzzles by sliding a set of stairs into an unlikely place or rotating a wheel just so to let your little avatar navigate to a new area. It’s immensely satisfying and frightfully clever, as some solutions had me gasping out loud just to see that they worked.

Phantom of the Kill VS Fire Emblem Heroes

Fire Emblem is a franchise that sets the standard for strategy role playing games. A world filled with characters fighting for their ideals in a conflict that generally ends with a big dragon. Fire Emblem is one of my favorite franchises ever and, while I did not love the most recent entries (the multiple versions of fates) change in direction, I still adore the series. So when Fire Emblem on mobile was announced they had my attention. Naturally I’ve dived deep into this game, clearing every normal story mission, most hard, and half the lunatic missions. That said there is another, Phantom of the Kill (PotK), a mobile game in the vain of Fire Emblem I also played during this stretch of Fire Emblem time.  How does a game inspired by Fire Emblem for consoles compare to the “real deal” made for mobile? Let’s find out shall we? (more…)
