GYGO: Tabletop News, or the Many Questionable Decisions of Wizards of the Coast

Hello folks, I’m Evelyn, bringing you the latest news in the tabletop space, from TCGs to TTRPGs and everything in between. If it’s played on top of a table, you’ll find it in this GYGO space. As somebody whose foray into gaming started with video games and the digital world, there’s something magical in the tactile and sensory input of a game around a table with friends face-to-face. I say this as if the majority of my tabletop experience isn’t relegated to the digital realm of running TTRPG campaigns on virtual table tops (the woes of the pandemic and moving across state lines). But I do own a pristine copy of Fury of Dracula 4th Edition, so legally I’m an expert on all things tabletop. (more…)

GYGO: Layoffs, Strikes, and a Surprising New Venue for Hamilton

Another week, another Wednesday! I’ve been holed up in my room recovering from a mild brush with covid that has led to me playing 17 entire hours of Age of Mythology: Extended Edition. I used to love this game growing up, and was surprised to learn that I actually suck at it. I’m struggling on moderate difficulty. Now that I think about it, I spent a lot of time spamming cheats for armies of Canadian laser bears and flying rainbow hippos (if you know, you know), which is probably why I was always successful.

I level up quickly almost entirely with story and class quests so (aside from a very bad quest chain to unlock Titan) I don’t spend much time doing busywork; I hop in and out of dungeons with friends and then chase down that asshole Thancred once again. It’s a lot of fun, even if I’ve heard that the story exponentially improves later on.

GYGO: The Riot Games Settlement and Rest in Peace Lil Bub

Hello everyone! It’s me again, back from a bit of a hiatus after a few big life events: I got married, I went on my honeymoon to Canada, and I’ve picked Celeste back up to collect everything I missed on the first playthrough. I’ve gotten all the crystal hearts and B-sides, and soon I’ll get every last strawberry. I have yet to tackle most of the B-sides themselves… and I’m currently chipping my way through The Cave… but I’ll 100% the game someday, mark my words. Anyway, here’s this week’s gaming news! Let’s start off a bang: the Riot Games settlement. (more…)

Howdy, gaming lovelies, and happy Wednesday! I might not be caught up on Games of Thrones, but that didn’t stop my D&D group from having our own little “hold the door” moment Friday night. Thankfully it mostly worked out, even if the towns will be singing songs of our uninvited assistance, followed by us burning everything down. What’s your favorite personal gaming moment from the week? Let me know in the comments! Now, on to the news! (more…)
