As August draws to a close, we must contend with the fact that our summer up here in the northern hemisphere is also drawing a close. This is good news for the chai-sipping, apple pie-loving pumpkin fiends among us, but it’s always a bit sad to know that beach season is heading out with the warm weather.

Happy Wednesday! What have you been playing lately? Like many in the Sidequest community, I’ve given Apex Legends a try. I like the ping system that makes it easier for players to communicate with their squad without using voice chat (more on the ping system and accessibility below). I also started Destiny 2 because I’m constantly in search of a single-player first-person shooter that I can enjoy when I don’t want the stress of multiplayer (which is most of the time). Released less than a week before Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in 2017, Horizon Zero Dawn hardly got a chance to exist on its own once both games were available. This is especially true given both are open-world games with plots driven by characters trying to save their homelands from ongoing disaster in a post-apocalyptic world. (more…)

Horizon Zero Dawn is one of 2017’s best new games. The PS4 exclusive was nominated for Game of the Year during The Game Awards, and won Best Core Entertainment Game and Audience Choice during the Dutch Game Awards. Venture Beat awarded the game Freshest Gaming Universe. The “best robot safari adventure game ever made” has an 89% score on Metacritic and has given birth to a number of great journalistic pieces on what makes it so special. One of those things is the central playable character, Aloy.
