I’m a pretty solid noob when it comes to Dungeons and Dragons, but I’m proud of the characters I’ve created and the campaigns I’ve participated in so far. These D&D campaigns didn’t last long due to adult responsibilities and commitments, but they gave me a solid feel for the game, and let me cross something else off of my geek bucket list.

Gun violence is on a lot of people’s minds lately, and rather than considering that archaic gun laws could be the problem, gun toters and profiteers unapologetically turn their attention to every other possible scenario that could have caused these perpetrators to pick up a gun and murder dozens of people. I recently attended a parenting presentation with guest speaker, Dr. Alex Russell, a clinical psychologist whose book, Drop the Worry Ball, tries to teach parents how to parent in an age of entitlement. He talked about how parenting books and columns have eroded parenting confidence and our “ability to trust our own intuition.” Moreover, with parents feeling the pressure to be involved in every aspect of their children’s lives, lest said parent become the shame of the community, we’re also not letting our kids take responsibility for themselves and their own actions, leading to a vicious cycle of anxiety.
What does this have to do with Fortnite, you ask? Well, as many parents, including celebrities have experienced of late, it turns out that my kids were the only kids not playing Fornite. Despite recently purchasing The Sims 4, Human: Fall Flat, and Gang Beasts, I was still failing as a parent because I had not allowed them to jump on this bandwagon yet. (more…)

Earlier this year, my kids and I settled down to play Undertale. They sat at my desk, mostly not arguing over the decisions of Mango, their playable protagonist, with me cuddled up behind them on my cozy chair, offering advice here and there.
Not long into their journey, they met Toriel. After saving Mango from the deceptively evil Flowey, Toriel served as their guide through the Ruins.
