Here’s hoping that Dragon Age 4 will let us actually visit places like Par Vollen and Tevinter, but until its release, I shall content myself with lovingly running my fingers over the pieces of the Dragon Age: World of Thedas Map Puzzle. This 1,000-piece puzzle comes in at 20 by 27 inches and is made with care. Where some puzzle manufacturers cheap out on materials, this one uses a quality board at about 1/16th of an inch thickness, making its pieces very sturdy. (more…)

I’m a pretty big fan of the monster hunter known as Geralt of Rivia, in both the original book series by Andrzej Sapkowski and the subsequent Witcher video games from CD Projekt Red, and I am eagerly looking forward to the pending Netflix series. Unfortunately, the trade paperback The Witcher Volume 1: House of Glass—a collection of issues one through five of the Dark Horse Witcher comic miniseries—doesn’t quite reach my expectations. (more…)

Comics based on video games don’t always work. Video games—particularly fighting games—that try to build story depth into their characters don’t always work. But Overwatch, perhaps because it was originally intended to be an MMORPG, has grounded every element of its characters, locations, and events deeply in its lore. Searching is part of the introduction of the hacker, Sombra. It begins in Saint Petersburg, Russia, directly following the animated short, Infiltration, where Sombra infiltrated Volskaya Industries (the premier anti-omnic security force). Sombra, along with Talon members Reaper and Widowmaker, were supposed to have assassinated Volskaya, but instead, Sombra presents Volskaya with a very difficult choice. Chairman Volskaya herself, however, has summoned Sergeant Aleksandra Zaryanova, the Russian Defense Forces’ strongest soldier, to track down and deal with Sombra. (more…)
