GYGO: Resident Evil 4 Remake, Street Fighter 6, and More Announced at Sony’s State of Play

Content note: mention of suicide.

Welcome back to Get Your Game On! My name is Zainabb and I wrote this during a Major Flare Up, please be proud of me. The world continues to be a stinky trash fire so I’ve decided to escape by overhauling my entire Sims 4 neighbourhood, beginning with a fancy beach house and a cute crafty cabin by the water. I legitimately made myself a bit sad when I finished the cabin because it came out really well but it’s not real and I can’t actually live there.

Rest when you can, friends, and keep kicking up a fuss the rest of the time. Here’s this week’s gaming news. (more…)

Review: Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild Is Fun for New and Old Fans

Review: Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild Is Fun for New and Old Fans

I begin this review with a couple of disclaimers. First, I have only come into the world of Monster Hunter with Monster Hunter World. Secondly, I tricked my teen—who has only watched me play MHW a couple of times—into watching Monster Hunter: Legends of the Guild with me so that I can share his expert opinions. I’d like to think that our level of experience with the games helps us to bridge the gap between veteran gaming fans and newcomers who may have only discovered it while perusing Netflix to add more shows to their watch lists. I really love some of Oblivion‘s quests but lack of controller support drove me right back into Skyrim‘s (thanks to a body mod) incredibly well-sculpted arms.

Anyway, the news! (more…)

Cherry Blossoms and Busty Babes: Ōkami and Misogyny in Western Gaming Culture

This year, I played cult classic Ōkami for the first time. Developed by the short-lived Capcom offshoot Clover Studio, the game was first released on PlayStation 2 back in 2006. Since its original release, Ōkami has been praised for offering up extraordinarily beautiful escapism: its charming gameplay and painterly worldbuilding have earned Ōkami the reputation of being one of the best games ever made. In the 12 years since Ōkami’s release, however, what nobody mentioned was the game’s rampant sexism. (more…)

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

This article contains spoilers for Resident Evil 7 and other Resident Evil games.

When Capcom announced that Resident Evil 7: Biohazard was going to mimic the first Resident Evil game, fans rejoiced. After the mixed reception of Resident Evil 6, many were excited that the franchise was going back to its survival horror roots. A creepy house with puzzles? The possibility of awful puns? Yes, please! But as I was playing it, I was shocked at the positive reviews the game has gotten. Personally? I think Resident Evil 7 has failed its fans.
