It’s been eight years since I last played the original Mass Effect trilogy. I know this because in the final moments of Mass Effect 3 I knocked over my Xbox 360, gouging a ring into the disk I’d borrowed from my friend. At 9AM on a Saturday morning, I biked across town to my now-shuttered local games store to have it buffed, all things that could have only happened before I left for college. (more…)

Hey all and welcome to GYGO! I’m Kael, your local language learner and I’m telling you I am this close to being able to play a JRPG in Japanese. This realistically being at least six months but still that’s closer than I’ve ever been! I’m pretty hyped to be able to get some language input while indulging my habit of playing nostalgic classics that are too long to comfortably fit into my adult life. (more…)

My Original Title: “If God Hates Nonbinaries Why Do We Keep Winning?”
Hey all, and welcome to GYGO! I’m Kael, your local nonbinary antigamer, and as my new epithet can attest I haven’t been playing many games recently. I did get some play time in Mass Effect Legendary Edition, and even eyed a trailer for Baldur’s Gate 3 before deciding to open a nice book. I just read We Are Totally Normal by Rahul Kanakia and really liked it! But you’re not here for my book recommendations (ostensibly, I don’t know your life), so here’s the news! (more…)

Hello and welcome to GYGO! I’m Kael, your local space peace advocate, and I’ve spent this week replaying Mass Effect. Turns out as much as I disliked the space marine archetype in 2007, I’m even less into it now in 2021. Why isn’t it enough to travel the galaxy lifting heavy objects with my mind and occasionally kissing an alien? Why must we shoot (and also commit like, multiple war crimes while asserting strangely human-centric space colonialism)? Anyway, while not reflecting on violence and the state in space, I was collecting this week’s hottest gaming news. Enjoy! (more…)

Hello and welcome to GYGO! I’m Kael, your local gaming dilettante, and I’ve tried to play four separate JRPGs this week. It started with Ni No Kuni, which is absolutely beautiful but has a seemingly never-ending tutorial. Then it was back to Chrono Trigger, a slight dip into Dark Cloud 2, before I finally settled into Nier Automata. Now the fun thing about Nier is that my current PC has a mid-range graphics card from 2014, and can only reasonably run it on 480p. Personally, I think more games should consider worse graphics as an aesthetic because the PlayStation-2-style visuals really work with Nier.
Anyway, when I wasn’t making a vibe out of old hardware I was collecting this weeks gaming news. Enjoy! (more…)
