I love frogs; I have a frog; frogs are amazing creatures that deserve respect of the highest caliber. Here at Sidequest we make a concerted effort to incorporate frogs in some way across the site. Therefore, one of us was legally obligated to review Kamaeru: A Frog Refuge, developed by Humble Reeds. I opted to take the plunge and hop into the game. While Kamaeru: A Frog Refuge has a beautiful look, I feel a few tweaks could have deepened its message. (more…)

Often we only focus on the adventurers, rather than the ones that support the journey. Shop management games are always a fun exploration, especially if you’ve worked retail. Titles like Recettear and Travellers Rest put us in the shoes of those that have to promote the sales, stock the armour, and keep the beer flowing! Who doesn’t love a festival? (Festival haters need not comment.) While you’d be hard-pressed to find me at a real-life festival, due in no small part to my small town not having many of them, I love indulging in a little gaming frivolity. August Roundtable: How Long Should Games Be?

How much time is too much time to spend playing a game? How short can a game be while still feeling like an interesting and realized world? These questions, oriented around the subjective experience of play, are not the kind typically brought up on the website formerly known as Twitter every time a new $14.99 indie game becomes the subject of… spirited… debate. Have no fear, though: the Sidequest gang has put pen to paper and fingers to keyboard to inject enough nuance into the subject to stop it from being a debate at all.
